From Nimbus to Scud

Cloud Edits teams up with Gigaclear to provide an ultra fast online editing service.

Very soon Cloud Edits will switch onto Ultra Fast Broadband.  Not superfast, which really won’t cut it for video, but ultra fast.  In Gigaclear’s case, that is really, really fast.  Speeds start at 50Mbps download and, significantly for Cloud Edits, upload.  From there, the speed can increase up to an eye-watering, G-force-cheek-wobbling uncontending 10Gbps.  That’s 10,000Mbps. That’s an upload speed 20,000 times faster than my current domestic setup!

In terms of lugging great big chunks of video data around, this service is essential to Cloud Edits.

Editors work in an almost virtual manner.  Footage goes onto a server that is plumbed into the edit suites via hardwiring. Broadband speed is therefore not an issue.  Take the editor out of that building and it can get a bit problematic.  With no more hardwiring, an internet connection is needed to reunite editor and rushes.

On any ordinary broadband setup, it’s just not practical to spend days uploading, downloading, then uploading files, then being told off by the broadband provider for being greedy.  Using Gigaclear, Cloud Edits can provide an online video editing service that is fast and efficient.

Using Aspera software can increase upload speeds for Cloud Edits clients.  However, if a broadband service is operating at a woeful 0.5Mbps on a good day, it can be very frustrating. With Gigaclear, Cloud Edits can upload the footage at their HQ at a fraction of the time.

Joe Frost, Sales and Marketing Director at Gigaclear stated “Truly fiber broadband with uploads as fast as downloads is what companies like this have to have in order to thrive. We are delighted to be given the opportunity to help make Cloud Edits successful.”
